The first years
of the 21st century have thus far been marked by the rise of a global economy. Since
the early 21st century when getting a desktop computers was the new big thing. When
you wanted to go online you would see the picture of the phone dialing –up for
internet connection and the only way you could receive a connection was from
home. wow! We now have DSL and Wi-Fi no more slow dial up connection and Wi-Fi
for on the go quick service like when we are eating at Mickey Dee’s. And most importantly
tablets, smartphones, and laptops. Wow look at how far we have come in what
seem like a short period of time. Technology play a major role in today’s
society young children today cannot live without the video games; the TV,
computers, and smartphones without these things would life be what we know it
to be probably not. These forms of Technology play a big role in the lives of
students today and as a future educator I know adding technology plus
curriculum will enhance learning every learning style will be exhibited.
Children will be interested in learning anytime we focus on things we have an
interest in doing we excel at them because it’s something that makes us happy.
I also feel that these forms of technology require your attention. With your
attention you have to see it, hear it, and because it’s something interesting to
you, you will engage in it.
Teaching 21st Century
Learners with 21st Century Technologies
In today’s digital world teachers have to
convey teaching curriculum with technology to engage students in the classroom.
Google online dictionary to look up spelling words definitions. This way the word
is visual and typing is another way almost like writing to reinforce learning
at home I use YouTube my 3rd grader did not know how to round to the
10’s and 100’s place so I used YouTube the pencil and paper method I used
to learn did not help him. I needed
something that would explain, give an example and provide a hand on activity.
Digital Identity and Social Media
As a future
educator I think that social media and identity are important too, but I feel
social media is more important since we are a right now generation everything
is about convenience. I prefer instant communication. It’s a way teachers can
communicate with each other and parents quicker and all parts are aware of everything
involving a student in and out of the classroom. I think this way we can all be
on one accord in the success of our children and students. Therefore, by
working together we can then see the student’s progress and achievements to
promote lifelong learning. As an future educator I think we together can influence
students challenge, and motivate students toward success not only in school but,
also into the future adults they will become in society.
Enjoyed reading your perspective of the chapter concepts...and, yes, that's what I was looking for! :) Even better is when you personalize it to your own situation/learning (as you did with your 3rd grader - would have been interesting to know/include what YouTube video worked for that 3rd grader!
ReplyDeleteLoved your look at how fast and furious technology has embedded itself within our lives. I remember working at a high school when the "Internet" first became available so your description of the phone dial up picture made me laugh AND appreciate how far we've come! But, truly, that impact is something to consider and that is, hopefully, what you will be discovering over this semester's content, creation and interactions!
One thing to remember for the future is to have that resource section where you spell out the APA style references used (i.e., always textbook and perhaps others) and give attribution to the Creative Commons licensed photo. Please be sure to review the link in Canvas regarding 'how to' via Google/Blogger accounts.
